The exposure of the flourishing Tibetan contemporary art movement is just in its infancy. The art from the Roof of the World will be making more and more appearances on the world stage. The Tibetan struggle to make sense of their world in the fast paced changing environment of modern Tibet gives it a great deal of source material to draw upon. This work demands to be looked at carefully for it is narrative of subtle drama, containing as it does an extraordinary range of people, things, and icons, both religious and secular, that speak to the past and the present and our confusion with life. |
