Antique Mongolian Carved and Polychrome Painted Dancing Cittapati
An antique Mongolian carved and polychrome painted sandalwood image of a pair of dancing Cittapati. The sculpture was created by repute by the hand of 17th century Gelugpa hierarch, Zanabazar (1635-1723 AD). The animated dancing and beribboned skeletons wear crowns of human skulls each having half-vajra finials are wrapped in painted and flaring waist-cloths; one holding a skull sceptre and the other a long-life vase in their right hands; each standing on a conch shell supported by a lotus petal base.
