Born
in 1960 in Shanghai, Xuhong Shang has practised as a painter and
installation artist for the past fifteen years. He has exhibited
extensively throughout Asia, Europe and the United States and is now an
Associate Professor of Art/ Painting at the Kansas State University.
Mountain, Xuhong Shang's newest painting series, features the juxtaposition of Western geometry and Chinese landscape tradition. While creating pictorial tension, the bold geometric element brings forth a sharp contrast to the nostalgia evoked by the landscape and a balance between rationality and imagination.
