| Plum Blossoms Gallery is pleased to present the first Hong Kong solo show of the artist Wei Qingji. Dedicating himself to the practice of ink painting (shuimo hua), Wei Qingji, born in 1971, Qingdao, Shandong, has managed to breath new life and sensuality into a centuries old tradition often considered out of touch with modern times. Currently a lecturer in the Art Department of South China Normal University, Mr. Wei has participated in more than fifty exhibitions in China and overseas. He has also curated several exhibitions of ink painting, including Meditation and Narration - Contemporary Ink, which was featured in the 2006 Hong Kong Arts Festival program. Recently, Wei was awarded with the Joseph K.W. Li Arts Fellowship (part of the Asian Cultural Council Fellowship program), which will support a residency in the United States where he will observe recent trends in contemporary art. |
